New Wreath Tutorial!!

This one is so much easier than the last one I shared with you HERE. I created this wreath to decorate Lauren's birthday present to match her party colors. That yellow just kills me with that hot pink. This wreath is so easy to make and literally takes about an hour.

Here are the materials that you will need:
*hot glue gun
*styrofoam wreath- any size you want
*fake flowers ( I got these ones in the 70% off bin at Michaels for the end of summer sale)
*ribbon
*wood letter & butterfly- unfinished (this one is from Michaels)
*acrylic paint
*sponge paint brush
*letter opener- or something sharp to make holes in foam
First start by making 1/4" to 1/2" round holes in styrofoam. Roughly about 1"-2" apart. (I did a cluster of 10 at a time then would move on to the next step and then go back for the next area to do). Fill 1 hole at a time wtih hot glue (you can fill more than one but it might dry quickly and it also might get messy). Stick ends of flowers into the holes. Let dry. I pulled my flowers off the stems because I did not want the leaves. But the leaves would be pretty for a fall wreath.
Once the wreath is full with the flowers and it is dry, wrap a think ribbon around the top and tie in a bow. You can put a little smidge of glue behind the bow to secure it in place to the top of the wreath.

Now break out your paints and apply with a sponge brush to the front side of the unfinished wood. If you are attaching it and wont see the back then of course you do not need to paint that side. Do the same with the butterfly. If you would like polka dots, use a round tip from a pencil, dip it into the paint, and "dot" where you would like the circles. Let this dry at least an hour. Then attach where ever you would like it with your hot glue gun.

So see it is SO easy and you may not have even needed me to tell you how to do it!!
I hope you all have a great LOOOOONG weekend and see you back her on Tuesday.

  6. Hi there. I just LOVE your website! Everything is just gorgeous! I was just wondering how you managed to make the big bow on this wreath and how you got it to stand up nice and full? Thanks so much, Penny from New Zealand :)

  7. Hi Penny, I hope you get this as I dont have your email address. But that ribbon had wire in it so it really hold its shape. And when making it I just made the bow portion very generous. Take care!

  8. Thanks for replying :) I thought the ribbon might have been wired but I can't find anything as wide as that (I'm assuming it's 4 inchs) that is wired (except for black, white and red). You don't happen to remember where you got it from do you? Sorry to bother you. Thanks again, Penny :) (I have a Windowslive email address and I can't figure out where to put it so I'll just check back to see if you respond) :)

  10. Hi,

I was wondering if you happen to remember how many flowers you used? I'm thinking about making this (or the tissue wreath) for my daughters 1st birthday.
    Thank you,

  11. Hi tifnieeke- I used about 6 bushels of fake flowers but these were pretty full too. So it will depend on how big and dense the flower is. Whichever one you make I would love to see so email it to us!! Good luck!
